Getting started with IPL Laser Hair Removal Treatment

The first step is a consultation, which is free. At the consultation we will discuss how IPL laser treatment works and make sure that hair removal treatment will be safe for you. In order to ensure optimum settings for removal of your hair we do a patch trial on your skin. Based on the patch trial and the information provided in the consultation, we recommend a course of IPL laser treatments and book you in for treatment. If we have any concerns around potential safety issues or effectiveness for your treatment, you will be told at the consultation.

What to expect from an IPL Laser Hair Removal session

The IPL laser hair removal sessions will generally take from 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the size of the area having hair removal. Some smaller areas may require less time. You will need to do a series of treatments spaced approximately four weeks apart. The reduction of hair on the treated area is progressive over the course of the IPL laser treatment.

The number of sessions that are needed will vary depending on factors including hair colour and density and skin colour. Around six IPL laser hair removal treatments are needed on average, although some people may need more than that. Your IPL laser treatment therapist will be able to give you an idea how many treatments you will need at your consultation.
Once the IPL laser hair removal treatment is complete you will just need occasional maintenance sessions for the treated area to remain hair free.

IPL Laser hair removal treatment is painless in most cases - you may feel slight discomfort from the action of the laser, and the skin of the treated hair removal area may be more red than normal following the hair removal treatment. This is the sign of an effective treatment, and will pass after 24 hours. There is no downtime with IPL laser hair removal - you can carry on your life as normal.

How IPL Laser Hair removal works

IPL laser hair removal is a new and advanced, long-term hair removal method.
The IPL laser therapist holds an optical head over the client’s skin. As the IPL treatment head is guided over the hair removal treatment area, light flashes are discharged on the skin. These pulsed light flashes are absorbed by the hair. When the pigment in the hair follicle absorbs this light, the energy is converted into heat, which damages the hair follicle. Hundreds of hair follicles are destroyed by each flash; the hairs then fall out in one to two weeks after the treatment.
The IPL laser hair removal sessions are spaced at four to five week intervals so that the hairs are treated in the active stage of hair growth cycle. The follicles in the dormant stage are not affected by the IPL laser hair removal treatment but when they become active will be treated at the subsequent IPL laser treatments.
